I've tried to post a couple of hours ago - but the post hasn't appeared so I'll try again.

I want to buy a P38 as aback up vehicle for high days holidays & snow days! When the sons get their act in order it will also tow the boat they are buying :D.

My budget is 3k max & I've looked at a couple and would appreciate advice. I want a 4 - 4.6 with LPG.

1. Is straight well looked after & everything works - except it's losing coolant - no leak but some milkiness in rocker, coolant loss around half a litre in 20 minutes driving. Can I be confident it's a head gasket as the price will allow me to pay for the repair (£500?). Could I nurse it 100 miles or so?

2. Claims the vehicle has an ABS sensor problem (fairly cheap I believe) - woulld the cat tell hom this or is it showing an ABS problem and he's guessing?

3. Good overall but when I engage low ratio (on tarmac) the dash tells me to engage neutral, as soon as I move off it's OK although low didn't freel as low as series landies I've driven in the past.

I would appreciate advice & apologise if this appears twice!!

:welcome2: Milky in rocker cover is head at least = strip, skim & gaskets. Might be more sinister; crack in head, liner
ABS may just be sensor, but again could be worse; pads down to nowt, thru wire, real ABS fault?
Engage neutral is normal in engaging low ratio, needs time for t/f box, (2secs!) Then will extinguish on moving. Gearing is different to Series so will feel a lil different so no biggy there!

search on here and you will see the world of pain coolant lose can be.... Life is too short if its the block your talking ££££££ .
Look for a better one:(

Probably not what you wanted to hear Huw, but you did ask, the crew round here know their RR far better than I but...........yeah, let your head rule your heart!!!

I've got a spot on 4.6 up for sale if your interested, not LPG'ed but I can sort you a deal out so you can afford to get it done in your budget.

It did have a few strange electrical problems but it was just all down to not enough voltage on the battery, but that's sorted now. No other problems to report. :)

It's had brand new tyres and a brand new battery and even radio fitted just about 2 weeks ago. Full service history, MOT, and tax.

Anyways if you do find your interested, drop me a PM.

Diesel with an auto box, thats what iv'e got and it tows my 23 foot trophy no problem but can see the lure of a sorted V8. I would run a mile from that one though, no telling could be the liner as already stated. Does the LPG on these engines cause problems, I know that there is a train of thought that it does not suit every engine.
Hope you find a good one
