Advice for a new /newish defender

Hello clever Landy people

I'm in the process of trying to convince my wife that a defender would be a good all round daily driver car.
I personally love them, not bothered about the lack of comfort.
Apart from fuel consumption not being great, I wanted people's thoughts. I really like the idea of getting a nearly new station wagon, and keeping it for years and years.
I wanted to know if they really are built to last? I wouldnt be using it off road at all. I'm not mechanical at all so wouldn't work on it. Do they generally have things go wrong with them, or is it the sort of car that will just keep going and going, or will it need constant money thrown at it?
I know it's vague but all your opinions welcome?

IMO
The chassis on the td5 and tdci are it's bad point tdci lots of electrical probs td5 similar issues
200/300 tdi IMO are the best of all 300 Easy to work on av mpg is 28/32 mpg get a csw
Av cost tdci 18+k td5 12+/- 300 8+ 200 5ish

The newer ones aint no better than the older ones they all break. If you aint fixing it then you need to have a lot of money in the bank to fix em.

Sorry'. But what's a csw?
Do they still make the tdi 200/300 or would they have to be older, I agree wouldn't want electric probs, not even fussed about electric windows etc.
I just don't want to buy any thing with problems, can you get them with rear forward facing seats?

And you think they are prone to go wrong often goonarmy? Same or more so than any normal car? They're not more resilient to problems then due to being made to take a beating on hard terrain?

200/300/td5 are no longer in production tdci is the new one
Forward facing rear seats = you can fit anything you want
Again IMO 300 tdi csw is the best for value

If your gonna buy newish then get the rust protection done straight away

If you are after a new one, its going to be a tdci. They are quite nice to drive though imo. what ever you do though get rust proofing the chassis straight away if you want it to last years and years. Its a simple job but worth it. That advise is true with any land rover though.
There is a lot of electrics so home repairs are not going to be anywhere new as easy as an old 200/300tdi however its still going to be a nice car. go and get one
