To clarify at the start I am not interested in changing the body type so it is ULEZ or similar exempt. This is purely so things are correct on record with the DVLA. All the vehicles will be historic class in the next couple of years, and only the '89 is currently on the road.

My '88 factory station wagon has a body type of "estate", my '89 factory hardtop has "light 4x4 utility". The hardtop is now a full station wagon (Thread LINK). Do I need to change the body type now it is a station wagon?

All of the threads I have historically seen on this are about trying to get the "estate" body type to be ulez exempt which seems impossible to do with the DVLA, but from memory most of them seemed to be the "light 4x4 utility" category. Did Land rover just put everything in this category and therefore I don't need to change anything now it is a station wagon?

On a separate but related point, how do I change the category, I have an '85 "pick-up" on the v5 that is a station wagon in reality. I would like to change this to not be a pickup. depending on the answered to the above depends what category to change it to, but I assume this does need to change as it is no longer a pickup and therefore need updating to either "estate" or "light 4x4 utility".

Haven't got my V5 at hand, so from memory;
My 2012 factory station wagon has body type Dual Purpose Vehicle. (The only difference I can see that this makes, is it is not restricted to the same speed limits as commercial vehicles). The important bit for me is the taxation class, Light Goods Vehicle. This class massively reduced the annual road tax, a concession JLR got from the DVLA at the time.
Changing a body type might result in a higher tax band?

They are all old enough to be on the flat rate tax and are all classed as private light goods vehicle. Also all shortly to qualify as historic and be exempt so the tax class is correct for all. It’s just the body type.
