Hello all,

I have just bought a disco 2 se and upon close inspection noticed the ACE fluid tank was empty. Naively I topped it up thinking it might just be very! Low but then noticed one of the pipes was disconnected and the oil was dripping out.

I am now assuming the the system is not working. Is there any way to tell? There are no lights on in the dash.

Or will it work with just one pipe!! I'm guessing not :(

pump is under and too the right of aircon pump as you look in engine bay should be replaced with an idler and shorter belt if not

It seems to corner very flat as if the system was working it's certainly a lot more stable than any other 4x4 I've driven. I have not had much of a chance to check it all out yet. I only picked the car up last night and took it for a drive this morning only to find the new rear hub fitted for the mot on Thursday was fitted with out an oil seal so spent the afternoon stripping the hub.....

I will be checking the rest of the car over tomorrow but was after some clues to possibly diagnose whether ACE was working.

I have working ACE and it corners very flat. Made my mind up as an essential.

Sounds like a bad leak and that it will be failing soon.

I had leaking steering (now fixed) and it worked on quite a low fluid level

Non-ACE anti-roll bars are pretty thick, like 30mm solid steel, so although you don't get the reactive effect of the ACE setup, it is still a viable system.

We've replaced our son's D2 ACE and mine will be going to same way, pump and system off completely, different belt, don't need to add any idlers on the V8, take one off in fact on mine, solid bars and away you go. Something else you haven't got to worry about.

Right I've had a look and there seems to be an idler pull under and to he right of the air con....... Guessing that's the issue.

idler and no pump ,i have a good used pump at work ,but you need to look over pipes and block etc to see whats needed to restore system or 2 x roll bars and bushes to remove ace properly

I have my first trip out tomorrow in the car but will have a good look all over he ACE system on Monday. To see what looks knackered. As would like to get the system working. I'm getting a little worried I'm bought a bit of a lemon!! Also slightly concerned as the water level in the harder rand keeps seattling very low. I've read many posts on this today saying this can be normal, but am still a little concerned.

re the coolant sitting low. had mine 3 years and no coolant leaks. but it always sits low in the expansion tank. was concerned at first. but not any more.
part of the quirky nature of these vehicles i guess:confused:

You have to consider why ACE was done away with in the first place. If pipes are corroded and leaking, depending if its front or back, can be tricky and expensive to replace. If the block seals are leaking, they can be problematic to replace. A new block is £££££. I would not consider replacing ACE if it was mine. Mine has had it removed for about 6 months now (running on locked ACE actuators) and I haven't noticed a jot of difference.

Exactly, get rid of the ACE!
