Just on trip back from Wales, amber ace came on (NOT red) so thought will hook up hawkeye when I get back. (incidently read the LR manual while waiting for recovery - that says that's right to do) After 30 or so miles felt power steering go and alternator light came on, pulled over opened bonnet and pump was glowing red, inrush of air caused it to catch fire. Luckily we had just bought a 4 pinter of milk which put it out. Has anyone else lost all the oil that quickly, and any ideas whether just a pump will fix it? This is on the TD5 by the way. Worst thing is no milk for our cuppa tonight, it's all over the M4 !!

youll need to fix the leak as well as another pump , system doesnt hold much oil so its soon all gone, if either the feed or return pipe leak its soon empty as the road outside my house proves,buy a used pump theres a few about, ive got several

Hey, I had this three times in three months, mine bust the hoses twice which run into the valve block and once blew the bottom of the valve block filter off. The last time emptied the oil in second or two. I've taken the whole system off and replaced it with an ACE replacement kit, it doesn't really handle much different and only cost £350. Considering a new valve block is £1000+ defo a mod worth doing!!! It's not broken down since.
That's option number 2 if it still leaks after pump swap. I read posts of where people just take pump off, but what happens to the rams? anyone got any experience of this? Cheers

You can get excess body roll as the car rolls from side to side there's no resistance in the Rams so it just extends and retracts giving you very little anti roll. I personally wouldn't just take the pump off long term after driving mine without oil in it.
