Folks, just bought three of these on eblag and I'm going to fit them in the cig lighter/rear wiper plate to run me toys.

I'm planning on taking the existing feed and earth from the cig lighter and just connect to all three sockets, probably with an extra in line fuse for safety.

Currently thinking three live wires joined to the original live, same with earth and run to each socket.

Anyone see any problem with this or have a cunning wiring plan?

I'd run a new cable direct from battery, through a fuse, then to the do 3 sockets, then, a dedicated earth for them.

Or, through a relay with ignition if you don't want them permanently live.

Depends what you are running off them though, if it's all low power stuff then you should be ok to just use your existing wiring

Standard cigar lighter sockets are usually rated at around 16 amps. The wiring itself will be rated at something over 10 amp, but probably not too far over 10amp. The whole thing is protected by a 10 amp fuse.

Provided its wired correctly, your new inline fuse won't accomplish anything, as it's still all protected by the original 10 amp fuse.

If all your toys draw less than 10 amp in total when they're all on, youll be fine. It's no different to using a multi socket adapter (like the kind you get in maplins). If your toys draw more than 10 amp in total, it will just keep blowing the fuse.

To make good use of them, have a fuse for each, and make sure the wiring is rated above the fuse, and that any common earth wires are rated higher than 30 amps (assuming you will only have three sockets).

Ok cheers

Yes current supply is switched through ignition (the origianal fag lighter). I want to keep it ignition switched if I can.

Just running a tomtom, dash cam, occationally charge the mobile or the blue tooth kit. May pump a camp bed up sometime, but probably with other toys off.

Could'nt find an amp rating for the sockets i've bought, but I doubt their higher than 10amp.

I guess pushing the live through a relay would not harm. That would make my head hurt though, because although technically a switched live, this would be permanent live? or if using as a switched live, then I'd need another permament live feed? Hmmm

This is what I been doing this morning. Not all wired up yet, but outside edge on is working :)
