How deep will she go? If one fits a snorkel, and as the distributor rack is high up at the back of the engine, provided that the axle breathers are all in good nick, (and the door seals are good) what is a safe depth of water to wade a petrol P38?

If that serious move the BeCM unit from under the drivers seat to a highter position? Also you might find the spare wheel well fills with water. All usual stuff, something over the radiator, deep mud tyres etc some good stuff on wading on Utube. As standard they are not good at wading.

Recommended wading height for a P38 (with precautions) is 20 inches. So if you want to go deeper it's a case of suck it and see. Could be expensive though.

As with any petrol it'll be fine until something important gets wet then its really broke. Stating the obvious there. But have seen wangie46 in his p38 do a few decent fords.

I wouldn't risk it, could be an a costly venture and p38's already come with a high maintenance bill.
I wouldn't take mine wading too deep just for the cost reason if anything did get damaged
:D

Why do people keep on asking the same daft questions? ;);)

I wouldn't wade in a P38! That said the drowned one looks like it was only spinning the rear wheel (presumably the front nearside too?) It must have been an early model and two wheel drive ain't gonna get you through there! - I suspect a Thor with four wheel TC would have got through before the cabin flooded if the door seals were sound.

If you listen to it he says, "I don't have air suspension and it grounded". Or something like that. The suspension looked pretty low, you would have it on wade height before even attempting that.

Fair point - and I watched the video with the sound off coz I'm listening to music. :D

I ran mine through a flooded road through the winter with no problems think the deepest part was about a foot!
But it was only wet for about 5-10 seconds so no water could get in to anything important in that time
Its completely standard
Remember there is a tecnick to fording! Keep it moving , create a "bow wave" do not let it "sit" in it! And get it out as soon as possible

I went into the surf and pulled a stranded truck out last summer. Didn't go over the wheels but she pulled the sucker out easily using low range. Had to wash all the salt off afterwards but other than that I got away with it. Completely standard P38.

spent two days in mine towing cars out off the floods in February no probbs good fun really Chertsey lane was pretty deep:D

We must have passed eachother....i was out rescuing my parents who live near Egham Hythe from the same floods...then took a few trips along Chertsey Lane and down the Thames by Laleham park...at some points it was lapping up at the bottom of the bonnet lid on the L322.... Great fun though.....

Parents house is still a building site though as they are still getting it repaired!!

hi saint, went to penton park with a trailer to get my brothers in inlaws out, then the neighbours asked then the friends, then form an orderly line, seeing all the flooded places was sickening and the people were very glad for help ;) brothers now got a disco I think at help his choice of cars:D
