well iveVbeen pootling around variouse garages in the south west for the past few days looking at variouse defenders. some were nice but massivly out of my budget, others were dogs which i didnt feel were worth the effort of a test drive.

from the ones i have seen in budget i am leaning towards a D reg defender i saw and test drove earlier.

the specs are
D reg defender 90 county 7 seat
88K on the clock
2.5 NA diesil

whilst i know the NA diesls arnt as nippy as the TDIs i didnt find any realy issue with it on the test drive it was drving comfortably and wasnt taking an ice age to accelerate. granted that was with 2 people in it not what i am going to be hauling.

will it realy be that bad when towing? or is it an overexageration and as long as im happy not belting along i will be fine

im looking at a landy as a way of relaxing and slowing down instead of what driving is like for me which is hectic.

are there any seriouse issue i would need to know about for a vehicle of this age? on a mechanical level?

i understand they arnt the most secure so i will be getting a disklock

the old n/a is just slow in general. with or without a large load!
main issue with this age is going to be rusty chassis especially the arse end. crossmember etc. bulkhead outriggers are another favourite. and definately the bulkhead and its footwells. oh and door bottoms!
check condition of the axles. look at the swivels on the front make sure they are not rusted and leaking everywhere. if you have driven it then you can make your own assessment on the engine, gearbox, clutch, brakes and steering.
will probably need a new set of springs shocks and bushes. not major cost but fair work if paying someone to do it.

just to add. this is comming from landroverman.com

thye say there will be a one month warenty on the engine, tranmission and axels is this fair

the white one one the webby.

in my heart i love it. it just feels right when i was in it.
but im now doing the head aspect and making sure that i dont get a lemon or something which becomes the bane of my life instead of a pride and joy.

yeah the yellow one is a lot of money, same price as the red 200tdi. the white one though looks very good indeed. theres something about unmolested early 90 and 110's that i love. we got one where i teach off road and its lovely. the n/a engine is complete ****e but i love it its completely original. apart from theres more welded patches on the chassis than chassis!
I'd consider the white one if i was looking. you can sometimes get a better older truck for the same money or less than a newer tdi.
my 110 is 87 county station wagon, ex navy with a factory 300tdi and box conversion in 1999 which has done 70000miles.and it was £2500. Its perfect!
If thats the one you want then do it! they dont seem to sell **** so it should bve a goodun.
Keep us posted if you do!

or does anyone know of places int he south west like that whic have cheeper end landys i can go and gander at

ive been to the bloke in glampton quay. he has nowt, the bloke in bovey has nothing at the mo in price range, the one in holsworthy has nothing in price range
and i dont know of anywhere else.

as i know very little about landies i would rather buy fram a garage where there is some form of tracability. instead of going from private sellers.
hence why i would like some other alternatives for places i can go.

another question i have is what is the tax rate going to be? insurance is going to be great. £145/year but i cant find a rate for the tax band
