Hi guys,

Thought I'd start another thread as this is unrelated to the painting question. There are a few gremlins I'd like to work out of my FL, not major ones but it would be good to get some input before I get started on them. This will all be post-MOT stuff, getting it roadworthy again is the top priority and so far it's going excellently. Once I fit that new exhaust manifold it'll probably be time to get it into the garage for an MOT.

First gremlin; the front washer pump doesn't respond. No noise, no water, no nothing when I pull the washer lever. I've checked the fuse, seems fine. So I reckon the pump has just died. I have a multimeter, and while the bonnet is off for the new manifold I'll see if there is any current going to it. What does the plug look like, and which pins should I test for current with the multimeter? Also, I've had a look on ebay but if anyone knows where to get a cheap replacement I'd be grateful for the info.

Second gremlin; the engine undertray is a wreck. At some point in its service history the undertray has been the victim of a rabid chimpanzee inflicting violences upon it. As a result, I was only able to get 5 of the 8 bolts out - the others I had to grind. Not a trace of anti-seize and several of the bolts were mismatched. The ones left in there are two on the right hand bracket, and one on the left side behind the bumper. The valance had simply been ripped away from the four fasteners connecting it to the bash bar, and there are still studs left in the bash bar. All in all, it's pretty FUBAR. We had to drill the rivets connecting the frame to the tray and then cut it at the front. So the frame might be reusable but the tray is trash, though I've kept it just in case. I'd really like to get a complete undertray replacement with the frame, so that I can get it to where it's supposed to be and fix the valance back onto it as I don't want it flapping about. Does anyone know where I could get a second hand one? This is for the facelift model btw, not sure if the part is the same as on the '97 model.

Gremlin the third; right hand passenger window actuator not responding. Where can I test for current, and if needed where is a good place to hunt for a used part?

Lotta questions there, a bit much to chew on. Any help you guys could give me would be really appreciated.

Will.

ok first it may be the pump itself under the front ofside wheel arch I just undid my arch nearest the shocker and folded it back it is only a couple on mins to replace the pump I got one of ebay make sure it is the right one for the job as there is also one for the back window on the water bottle next there is is a under belly protector on ebay right now

Ah thanks! I bought a washer pump, better fit it before the MOT as I'm pretty sure they can fail you on that. As for the tray, I'll see how the cash situation looks after it's passed it's MOT.

Also, the exhaust manifold heat shield was rotten and had to be binned. I can't find any online, are they totally necessary? I could always use some exhaust wrap but if that's not needed then I won't bother.

Oh just had a thought, as this is probably the most likely vehicle to be nicked that I've owned, what tracking devices if any are you guys using?

Yes, 1.8 K series. Haters gonna hate :p. In fact the engine is in great nick. It's had a new HG, been re-faced and had work done on the valves. Lots of room under the bonnet though...

Don't bother with an alarm and I'm sure the fellow freelander peeps will welcome you to the forum as a like minded person

Haha fair (hair) do's xD!

In fact I didn't think I'd become a Landy owner this early in life - though I was raised in 'em and have wanted one forever. I got lucky when I mentioned I was looking for a new car and my girlfriend's boss said he had one sitting to rot as he couldn't be bothered with it with all the problems. Said I could keep it if I could get it running - which I have :). So far I've spent less than a third on parts and tools of the amount I was saving to buy a Mk4 Astra or something. Effing bargain!

I love Discovery's really but I won't look a gift Landy in the mouth. Even just driving it round the car park to work the rust off the brakes, I can feel it's a nice ride and I'm going to enjoy driving it alot!

Good for you! Get it up and running then trade it in for a proper Landy :bounce:

I can just about aford the fuel consumption on a Freelander, a disco is a little out of my running cost price range right now :). But one day perhaps...
