A/C problem?

hi, when i turn on the a/c on my 2000xi it seems to lose power as if i was suddenly pulling a trailer behind me ,any info lads?

they do take quite a bit of power on initial start up and yes it will sap power this is pretty normal but on normal crusing you should not feel a lot,does the air con get cold i dont think you have a problem had the car long

Agree with Tiga, turning the A/C on is like losing 30 BHP unless you are at speed and the power loss isnt to noticeable.

thanks lads,you have put my mind at rest on this. tigapiglet ive only had the car since november so not much chance to use the a/c , but on saturday it was quite warm so i tried the a/c out only to feel the loss of power,it does go cold so i presume no probs there

hi dc1 it is recomended that you use the aircon for a few minutes every week cold or hot i run my aircon a lot when its cold as it warms the engine up quicker and if your car gets wet inside,i know what im saying freelanders dont leak nor do any other quality landrovers but if they do get wet inside the aircon on hot will dry out your car,so rest assured use the aircon keep your system going tiga

hi tiga, as this is the first car ive had with a/c i thought you only used it when you wanted the car to be cooler. thanks for the advice .dc1

well new range rover and old range rover p38s and disco2s all have the aircon running continuously you have to turn it off in a range rover,the hotter you have the heat setting the less the aircon comes on there is a sensor up near the heater box and knows what temp the cabin is,if my children get in the car wet and the windows fog up i just switch the air con on and leave it on fan position 1 just to dry the car out welcome to the site and happy motoring tiga
