Ok, got home today after 2 weeks, jumped into the Rangie and off she went first kick:D Picked up the daughter and went 6 miles to do some shopping, went to lock the car and it would not lock with the fob so locked it with the key, came back and unlocked with the key then went to start her up but no go:(. Left it a while and came back but still no go. RAC will be there in the morning as clueless about electronics. When I go to start her everything looks normal but it tells me that the engine is imobilised and to press the fob but its as if the fob is dead, red light comes on in fob even changed the battery but still did not work:eek: Probably been covered a hundred times but hoping its nothing serious. Anyway can you bypass the immobiliser or is it built into the whole system.
Thanks for any help

Its likely that the key fob code has been corrupted in the BECM, get someone with faultmate to turn off the immobiliser in the BECM until you get a chance to get it fixed properly

Thanks guys, RAC guy arrived and the thing started, told me it was the police communication mast that caused the problem as he's had a few call outs in the same area, told me if it had not started he would have towed it a hundred yards (well done eightinavee) down the road and he said it would have a 99 per cent chance of starting.
Warned me never to park anywhere near a communication mast or a mob telephone mast as has been pointed out on here it causes problems with the immobiliser and can waken the Becm and flatten the battery.
relieved and many thanks

It works because the original RF receiver is not to fussy about the signals it picks up.It should just pickup the signal on 433MHZ,(UK territory) from the keyfob. In reality it does not filter well enough and if there is a strong enough signal from a nearby source on a close frequency it will corrupt the fobs attempt to mobilise and unlock the car for you.Moving it up the road 100yds will lessen the influence from the stray signal and allow the fob to do its job.
There is an upgraded RF receiver which is much more fussy and seems to work well - YWY500170 is the LR part #.

My mates Honda Blackbird had the same problem, we stopped outside what turned out to be a taxi office in Spain and his engine cut out and coudn't be re-started. It was the signals from the Taxi office transmitter. The fix was the same, push it 100 metres up the road and it all came back to life. So it aint just the P38 that has these problems.

Best thing about this is I and some others have learned a really usefull tip that if had not been tried would have been dismissed as being too simple a fix. It is true that it is not just the P38 that is affected. The only other thing I need to sort out now is why my SRS light comes on sometimes. If the light is off and I lock the car it beeps, if its on and I lock the car it does not beep. Wierd and I have checked every connection and they are dry and clean. Thanks again for all the replies it was much appriciated.
