96 dse fog lights

I know this sounds daft but i cant find the switch to put the front fog lamps on.............rear fogs no probs.......two fog,s in the front valance all seem to be wired up ok ,wires dissapear into harness,,,but there dosn,t seem to be a switch for em.......nothing in handbook it dos,t even mention them,they look like a factory fitment but im buggered if i can figure out how they come on iv,e tried with lights on and of but no luck..... its wierd , i just wondered if anybody had the same problem. its due for mot so ill have to work something out quickly or it aint gonna pass....damb n blast......cheers ...dave :confused2::confused2:

The reason yu aint got a front fog light switch, is yur car shouldn't have em fitted, at least if yu have the auto box.

The nearside light is now hiding your gearbox oil cooler, which is why diseasels normally have a grill on the nearside and a blanking plate on the offside.

If the oil cooler has been relocated or had some sort of fan fitted to it, the fog lights need to be activated via the BECM and the switch needs fitting, should be next to the rear fog switch. I assume you have a blanking piece instead.

DV's right. Sounds like someone's done half a job again. The blanking cap to the right of the rear fog switch should be your front switch, but even if you fit that then it's a trip to someone with testbook or equiv to set BECM to recognise that their there, and if it's an auto then they shouldn't be! Quickest fix for MOT is probably to whip em off!!

As far as I know, front fogs are not an MOT item, haver never sin mine tested anyhow.

Sure someone on here will confirm requirement though

I think it might be a case of if it's fitted it's gotta work.

That refers to the road traffic act. At one time, don't know about now. You did not have to have any lights at all on a vehicle if it was operated in the hours of daylight. But any that were fitted must work. It refered to the mandatory lighting requirements of, two white lights to the front, two red lights to the rear, brake lights, number plate lights and indicators if the vehicle was used in the hours of darkness. And still only refers to the manditory lighting as far as i know, you now have to have rear fogs or anti collision lamps but front fog lamps and reversing lamps are not included in the test. It is a moot point if a bulb gone in high level brake lamps should cause a fail as long as the manditory brake lamps are working.

CHEERS lads i must admit i allways understood if they,r fitted they must work,however there is a blankin plate fitted ie spare place on dash,its obviously been like this some and passed the mot,,its a manual g,box,both lights look as though they have been in there from new,but no switch seems daft to me why go to the expense of fittin them @ not wiring them up....Tthe strange thin is theres no mention of em in the handbook ,no switch position ,no fuse,no relay no nothing inthe wiring text .......Ill check with my mot chappie to see if they want taking out for the mot or what.......thanks for they prompt replies guy,s and all the help cheers ,,,,dave

they wont need taking out for the mot but might be the easiest way to find out what they are wired to.Had a mate who was a "mecahnic"-he worked for quick fit.He tried to tell me you fail MOT on the spare wheel.Knobber.
