Hi All, my front lights work fine (bar an indicator which just needs a new bulb) but my rear lights are a different story...

The brake lights are constantly on, but the bulb holders are loose and i think i'll need to replace them as they individually flicker all over the place when driving apparently - This is caused by the brake light switch floating in the engine bay! (see pics) - is this where it should be? or should i just mount it to the brake pedal itself?

the rear driving lights don't seem to be working. is there some sort of relay in play somewhere which switches the normal driving lamp off when the brake lights come on? or should i start looking at fuses and wiring issues?

The fog light works, unless my front high beams are on. is this normal? it looks like they may be incorrectly wired to the low beam relay instead of the 'headlights' live before it goes to any relays...

I'm an electrician by trade so these are all things i can sort, but some insider info would be useful! :)

Thanks in advance!
Luke
the brake switch. it looks like it was slotted into the housing in the background, but i can't see an obvious way of actually attaching it.

and Bottom Left is rear driving lighjts?

Top left fuse (10A) is interior lights, horn, flash, and (I think) dash illumination. I blew this on mine last year. Didn’t realise until I had no horn!
Bottom left (8A??? Not sure about that) is rear fogs.

The brake light switch should be mounted to the rear of the brake pedal box, between the pedal box and the bulkhead. It’s a squeeze for me to get my hands in there, but it can be done. I think mine is screwed into a housing, with a lock nut.

Thanks, any idea which fuse is for the rear driving lights?
I've seen a few other posts on here with the switch where it looks like it should go in the picture. this is a very early Defender.

If I had to guess, I would say 5 down on the left hand side is stop/brake lights. Fuses 5 and 6 on the RIGHT hand side are for front and rear side lights. If your fronts are working, then I wouldn’t think the fuses are bad.

If you brake lights are on you won't see if the rear side lights are on ;)
Disconnect the brake pedal switch to prove.
Fog lights are on a interrupter relay where if the high beam is on fog lights are off.

This is from the 300 tai manual so may be slightly different but may give you a better idea
