96 Disco 1 heated seat upgrade

Hi, all.

I have a '96 Disco 1 ES auto. I would like to fit heated seat elements.

I believe that some Disco 1's already have the wiring in place. As I have electric seat adjusters, can anyone tell me how I identify whether the cabling is already in place for heated seats. I can see wiring, but as I say, it is probably for the seat adjustment.

BTW, my seats are leather.

Has anyone been down this road?

here is a cheap way of doing it

hot water bottle

Remove the electric window switch panel and see if you have two spare switch plugs laying there, which would be inused if you has heated seats.

No plugs no wiring

I've seen a 12V version somewhere, but i was hoping for something a bit more permanent.

Having spent time in Iceland and Russia, I am happy to take the creature comforts when I can get them. My last Landy was a Series. I don't feel I have to prove anything. Thanks for your considerate reply.

No it just prises off.

So, I can just gently prise it off with a screwdriver, or something. If I have heated seat connectors, will they be the only wires not connected-up? Should I be fortunate enough to have some, I guess I'd have to replace the switch panel, as it hasn't got heated switches at the moment.

Yes, just prise it off carefully. Owing to the fact it is made of some weak eggshell it will probably break but at least it'll satisfy your curiosity. In the unlikely event you do actually find the plugs for the switches, you'll have to buy a new fascia plate and relevant switches. Once this little task is completed you will then have the bother of removing the front seats and replacing with the heated items. The intrinsic heater elements in the "new" seats will lead out a wire which somewhere in the carpet or indeed protruding from it will be the opposite version of this plug. I would imagine there will be a space for a fuse for said addition in the fuse box, however it may be coupled to the circuit for another high amperage unit, say the heated rear window for instance. Once all this is completed you will be able to ascertain whether it actually works, which it may or may not. If it doesn't, give up and go for the first suggestion of a hot water bottle as the probability is the heater elements are shafted.

Chris, the window switch panel/bezel has a push in panel that has 4 thin pegs on it (careful not to break them), behind that is the panel the switches are mounted in which is held by 4 screws.
