Looking for some suggestions on the following issues that I can look into:

1) When I put it into drive the red light that should illuminate onndrive illuminates on 1 and in reverse it illuminates another gear, can't remember which. It selects the gear fine, just a wee niggle I'd like to solve.

2) I recently changed the fuel leak off pipes and glow plugs to try resolve having to light the glow plugs 3 times when the engine is cold for it to start. It now starts first time but a bit rough and I get a big puff of white smoke out the back. It drives fine otherwise, no smoke, starts fine when warm. Just when it's sat a while.

3) the AC system wasn't working when I bought it, when taking the cooling system out I noticed the pipes going into the condensor and the motor were disconnected. Should I reconnect and try regass or is there some way to test the individual components to see if something is broken?

1) would normally be the XYZ switch but if it actually selects the right gear I'm not sure.
2) Loosing water? Dodgy injector?
3) If the pipes oare off the compressor, it's probably fecked, is the belt on?
 
No water loss at all, can injectors be checked easy enough?

There was no belt on.

I would not worry about the puff of white smoke for the moment, could just be a glow plug with a bad connection.
I would suggest the compressor is fecked if it's been left with no belt and pipes for any length of time. A secondhand one from Emmotts might be the way to go.

Judging by the number of posts about this car, sounds like a right bag of bent nails. Hope he didn't pay more than a tenner for it. :D:D:D
 
yeah, needed a lot of work doing, but it's running smooth now and I've enjoyed working on it and appreciate all the help :)
