just arrived back in Worcester after spending the day in altrincham going through the list of jobs the mot man gave to my son to get his 90 through.
Last on the list is a perished gaiter on the upper link ball joint. Had a go at splitting the taper to remove joint from the axle bracket, but ran out of time and inclination. Before resorting to large hammer and drift, does anyone have any ideas about replacing gaiter in situ, for example cutting new gaiter to wrap it, or using piece of leather to make gaiter as in the old days. Son is not too handy with lump hammer, hence question

Two hammers one each side of the bracket and hit it at the same time normally works and much easier than a splitter or drift

As I thought, simple solution found to perished gaiter, cleaned it off, wrapped in silicon tape and mot man happy. No need for large hammers or big drifts.
