Hi all, after changing my r/h front suspension unit (new damper, top mount & gaiter but with the original spring & new Lemforder drop link & outer steering ball joint) It's developed a clicking noise at 20-40 mph, over that it's ok. I'm hoping it's not the IRD taper bearing where the d/shaft enters (as this noise wasn't there before) so I drained the oil which came out as clean as a whistle, see pics.
So question is would any IRD bearing failures show up in the oil ? I've only done about 50 miles since changing the shock & made sure the hub rested on a axle stand at its normal height, the only other thing is I did change that d/shaft for a Bearmach one about 3 yrs ago as I had a knocking noise which turned out to be the drop link the other side . The current d/shafts have the same amount of play in the same places. I still have the genuine d/shaft so I'm going to fit that at the weekend just in case the cv joint is NFG.;). I've rechecked all the nuts/bolts are tight.
Thanks in advance.

Bit of a long shot but you didn't bend the brake back plate so that it touches the disc rotor??

Also, when clicking, push on brake see if it goes. Might have upset sommat??

Hi, I'm normally careful not to bend/damage anything. When I got it 5 yrs ago I replaced the discs, lower arms & powerflexed all the bushes fr to rr & while I was there had the fore sight to remove/copper slip the front strut bolts which just pushed out this time (un- like the rears that I hadn't touched & took 2 hours to remove:rolleyes:) I did replace a split caliper slider pin boot as well. The calipers, pads & pin kits were new 3,000 miles ago but I'm worried it's more than a rubbing/scraping sound, I couldn't hear anything when I had both fronts off the ground & spun the wheel(s) to check for play in the wh. bearings.
In your experience is the IRD oil always contaminated (metallic particles) when the bearing(s) are failing ?
Thanks in advance.
