Me and my brother have a few days off this coming week, and we're looking at sorting out the frankly awful sound system in the defender. I've ripped apart an old sub - I reckon I can get a 10¨ between the seats without loosing too much flexibility - but the actual speakers are a problem.

Where's the accepted place for them? My doors don't have any cutouts, and I'm struggling to see any other places, other than building them into a new centre box along with the sub... Which will sound crap I'd imagine.

cheers

Put speakers in a home made console above your head, or in boxes, just behind, or in the back corners.

Im goin to be finished my sound system at some point.

Have a 150watt amp behind the passenger seat, wired currently into to hi fi speakers in the back corners, but soon to be powering two speakers in the consol im gonna make to go above my head, which will also hold the head unit.

Have got a 200watt jbl sub tube thing, which looks ****e frankly so is goin to be pulled apart, and im going to use the amp and the speaker and make a custom box that fits neatly in the back corner on the wheel arch in the corner opposite the driver.

Then I am going to make a box behind the driver and passenger heads and in the back top corners which will be driven by the head units not too good interal amp.

My old 110 had the standard speakers in the dash, by your knees. They got bashed cos im a bit taller i guess, and they sounded a bit pants too.

are you gonna hear a stereo above the engine noise anyway?
Definitely, i put a new stereo in and made speaker boxes to fit in the back corners of the hard top, and the two front ones are just the standard ones in teh dash - put the emphasis on the ones in the back and you could be in the royal albert hall (except the landy don't handle quite as well as the Royal Albert Hall!!)

You can hear mine from over 20 feet away with the engine running, and its easy to tell what im listening too when i drive past if its wound up a bit.

So yes you can hear it, and i only currently have the 2 old Hi Fi speakers in the very back of the car, on top of the wheel arches.
