i have a B 90 i only bought it yesterday and went to start it this morning and the battery was flat everything was switched off as far as i could see

has anyone had thisd problem or do they know what the problem could be

if you only bought it yesterday, how long had it stood on the forecourt/driveway before you picked it up ? Batteries don't do well at being left for long periods without use, might just need a good charge up.

Have you tried to charge it ? have you carried out a discharge test on the battery ? will it jump start ? have you used a meter to measure the discharge current when everything is off ? is there an alarm ? is there a partial earth on the interior light ?

so many questions, so little knowledge..

Other than that, your request is delightfully vague.

i bought it from some one and it had been driven around and i was fine yesterday driving it

the interior light does not come on the bulb is blown.

it would not bump start this morning if thats any help

would a new battery solve it

Does that help?

maybe getting closer. have you tried to charge it ? have you tried a jump start which is different to a bump start. unlikely to bump start from cold in this cold weather, assuming it is a diesel, as the glow plugs won't be able to warm the engine before trying to run it.

a new battery may cure the immediate problem, but it is more important to find out why the current one failed. If it is just old age, then fair enough, the problem is cured. BUT if the alternator is not charging the battery properly, then you will just be chucking good money after bad. Likewise, if something is discharging the battery overnight (i.e. a load on the battery, even with ignition off) then the same thing will happen again.

That is why I asked about doing all the above checks. It may be that the battery was on it's last legs, and this cold snap has finished it off. If so, happy banana, and you're off for the cost of a battery. If not, you'll be wasting your money fitting a new battery.

Good Luck

ok cheers i just went out after a day at work and the battery was flat again only way to get ti going is to jump it off anothe car i disconnected the spot lights to see that if that help gunn get a booster pack tonght ready for tomor

dont waste your money, buy a tractor battery instead if your that keen to spend

Disconnecting the lights might not do any thing! Is the battery shagged or not as above^ Sounds like its either the battery or the alternator.Get a new battery as above if that battery is old.Maybe even a tractor one as above^^^.Tell us what happens might be as above^?

well got home from work tonight turnt the landy off then about 5 mins later went to start it and it started but the battery light was on so im gettign the impression the battery is dead rather than the altinator

Ave a look at the battery, if ya lucky itll have a date of first charge on it-ie tell you how old it is.More then a couple of years id get it changed. However if you charge it, on a charger out of the car and the battery holds its charge it is probbaly the alternator. Then you need to recon that one or get a new un.

Blimey I must be lucky. Left my 1982 County on the Drive since before Christmas, -4C this morning, barely turned the key and off she went, smug or what? Check all the earth connections as corrosion can discharge a battery rapidly, also clean of the terminals if cooroded and coat with copper grease or similar to prevent further corrosion. heck the fan belt is tight as they harden and slip in cold weather. If you charge the battery of the vehicle and it holds the charge then it could be the ALT, or corrosion as suggested.

the light goes out when i rev it

i had a m8 come round last night and we put the battery on trickle charge all night and it start first time this morning so im goin to see how it is later on today when i finish work and see if its held its charge but i may invest in a cheap booster pack just so in case i get any problems in the future. plus my m8 is gettign to batteies for me today to try them in there

First thing I would do is,

*Test battery voltage before you start,
*Test battery voltage after you start up,
*Rev the engine while testing voltage should steadily climb to about 14.2 ish,
*Let the Engine sit at idle check voltage, should hold steady,
*Then test the voltage with engine running idle headlights on main beam and Heater on fully see what the voltage is then,

*Change your leads around for the Ammeter and disconnect you positive batt cable with everything turned off no ignition or anything put the Ammeter in line measure what the current draw is should be minimal.

Write them down and come back on ere give us some info we can then help.
Make sure nothing is turned on except ignition.

Suspect alternator diode pack is screwed, battery or dodgy earth.

i still recon its gonna be the battery.

Save your money for the booster pack, they are ****e. They aint gonna help your 2.5 litre DIESEL in the slightest.

Save you money and buy a spare battery and some good tractgor jump leads, sorted.
