Hi. My engine had a rebuild after 40+ years in a barn Passed MoT fine. Was returned to me v low on fuel. Didn’t realise quite how low. Started up. Fine on tickover but under load it splutters like crazy. Smell of fuel. No power, can’t get into 3rd/4th. Popping as you drive. Then after a mile or so it ran out of fuel.....anyway, 10 litres added. Plugs cleaned - 1 and 4 were oily black. 2 and 3 relatively clean. Starts but under load it has no power and still pops and bangs up the road. Timing and points checked/reset. Valves checked/reset. There’s an in line fuel filter. Does anyone have any pointers, pls.

Thanks
AJ

I'd be talking to the people who did the engine rebuild. Have you put lead free additive in it? Although not doing so wouldn't cause this trouble I just a few miles. Two oily plugs are a bit of a concern, how thorough was the rebuild? Did the put new valve seals in?

A good dodge on a partially blocked carburettor jet is remove air inlet pipe and start engine
Rev it up at the same time block inlet to carb with your palm, the suction created will often clear
The obstruction,
