When are you looking at getting it back from the dealers?

W

They're flat out at the mo so they are starting work on it on the 22nd of this month and then it's just the waiting game I'm afraid ......

Hopefully if luck goes my way (let's face it, it's long overdue) and it turns out to be the diff and not gearbox related, then it should only be a matter of days rather than sending off the gearbox etc etc. It's a family owned indy LR garage whose hourly rate is less than half of the main stealers so I have got the play the waiting game. Never mind, it keeps the mileage off for a few weeks and gives me time to source a couple of the other little jobs I want to do to the old girl :)

Well your seeming alot more up beat about it now anyway :) so thats good.. Has it had any issues with the gear box in the pasted? Any records of a box swap in the service history?

Yeah I've kind of stopped fretting now to be honest and put it into perspective. Not to go into too many details, my Mums getting over the C word so the car is only metal and money is only paper so hey ho, all's well with the world :)

I don't think the box has been swapped but one of my earlier posts was about a juddering in auto and not in manual so something is amiss in there and Bemble kindly gave me some theories. Service history is bang up to date as well.

These things are sent to test us my friend ;)

Sounds like your being really tested sorry to hear about your mum glad she's getting there now tho.

Is this problem being fixed under warranty?

Thanks Will.

I'm gonna have a go at the dealer when I can get hold of him but the main thing is I want to get my new toy back so I've told the garage to get on with it!

Mighty brave or mighty stupid ....... we'll see :)

Just had a great call from my Landy garage. They've just had a quick look at it and it's only the front diff so no gearbox troubles! Monday the 15th looking better than Monday the 8th :)

They opened up the diff to see the condition of the oil and the crud magnet etc and the whole unit was bone dry so it looks like it tried to weld itself shut with the friction.

They have ordered me a diff at £550 but there's a surcharge of £200 on the exchange unit but if mine is badly fried, then it'll be £750 if they can't use it so I'm hoping with labout to come in under £1000. Better still as it's only the diff, they're going to try and get it done before Chrimbo so all in all it's looking good buddy :)

Will report back when I know more.

Just got really excited five minutes ago when I saw my Landy garage ringing me on my mobile. The excitement didn't last long though :(

Where I was hoping the news was that they'd got it fixed before Chrimbo turned out to be the news that as much as they know what is wrong, still the front diff, turned into that they can't get the part, even off Land Rover.

Land Rover has got them on back order as apparently they have no obligation to continue supporting the car as it is over ten years old and all their contacts are out of them.

Soooooooooo, basically it is down to me to locate the part, pay for it and get it to the garage so they've said there's plenty on eBay but obviously I have to buy it so the responsibility lies with me. Bugger.

So it looks like Chrimbo is going to be spent in front of the pc searching for Flange Type LR007038, at the time of the year where most of England has shut down for a fortnight!!! Hey ho :(

Yep, JLR won't stock the diffs and dealer held parts are slowing down...although they won't totally not stock everything...you can still get Classic parts if you ask them to look harder for them!

That being said, there are aftermarket suppliers of them as above Britcar and lr-direct (I found their customer service hit and miss at times!) and also ebay...

Britcar list at £450 + £210 exchange surcharge....

Best of luck, could be worse! Could be looking at a gearbox job!

Thanks for the replies peeps, it got better just after I sent that last message! Even though I was tasked with finding the part myself, I came on here to let my new buddies know where I was up to and the second job was to search ....... If only I'd done it the other way around!!

Sourced the part on ebay of all places, 240 inc free delivery with a 90 day warranty! It sounded too good to be true so I rang the garage back and they said snap their hand off as anyone offering a warranty on a second hand part has to know their stuff. They've got over 9000 feedback thats really good and it looks like they specialize in Rangies only.

Supposedly landing by express delivery tomorrow (Chrimbo Eve) so fingers crossed and look forward to a giddy update from me in 24 hours!!!
