6.5L GMC in a Rangie?

dont even consider this conversion its abysmal the 6.2 and 6.5 will destroy the landrover transmission , its noisey , slow revving , and the only way you will get 35 mpg out of it is if you drive it off a cliff , i went down the road a few years ago looking at this engine even to the point of buying a so called recon unit from a rogue in cornwall who used to deal in these engines , and it was crap, the conversion kit he supplied was at best rubbish and at worst just plain junk , eventually i got a full refund , i would not have fitted it in a wheelbarrow let alone my then pride and joy , i have since seen a number of these so called conversions and they are all crap , i have yet to speak to someone who is running one who is totally happy with it , i dont proffess to be a guru but i do have 36yrs experiance as a diesel mechanic so there you have it my opinion

Its not 6.5 litres but its 5.7 from these two guys. Ive seen this site mentioned before but know of nobody who has actually had it done to theirs, its been discussed quite a bit over a rangerovers.net though.

Well,
Nuts to that idea then.

I had a bit of money wating for a 4x4 and figured I'd splash out on one of these.

Apparently a blokey near Bolton is trying to get rid of a 4.6l RR of somekind which he says keeps overheating and suspects the Head Gasket is gone. Is it an expensive proposition to have the gasket installed and the head skimmed on these mooters? I think it is going cheap, but it all depends on what the repair costs would be....

i have just bought a 4.6 hse with lpg conversion doing exactly exactly the same i repaired it this evening a total cost of £0.00 see my post in classic / lse prices its just luck of the draw mate i could have gone the other way and had liner problems

about 18 months ago i had this done. it cost me around £1500 incl labour and vat. i stress that it wasnt done at a lr main dealer as you will be talking closer to £4k for the same work.
