I've just joined Thames Valley 4x4. They have a home site near Bradfield College, nr Pangbourne. Friendly bunch. Think the next meet is first week in September at the home site, other times they visit other club venues in Berks. Abingdon 4x4 doo is also comming up (late September).

where abouts in berks are you?

No need to join clubs where you have to pay fees...unless you want to take advantage of their organised pay&plays and be told what to do and where to go and who with.

get some OS maps, there's loads of green lanes around here and the Salisbury plains.

I need to be told what to do and where to go and who with, I'm an incompetent fool:D

Although think it's helpful to have a few local contacts too. I'm missed the last event but a local club can give you a heads up the 'hidden gems'!? of green lanes in your area. But yes, you could alway just rely on the map.
