Think you might be right, I was up there early last year before I bought my landy and they did seem pretty keen to help.

point taken - thanks for the warning. I will be taking a friend with me so he will be able to talk about the technical things. Will they charge me just for looking at it? Should I wear a short skirt (joke lol)?

Good plan. PM me if you can't get it fixed. My Dad is an old skool proper mechanic and does all of one local LR dealers work for them. He works out of a barn nearby and doesn't charge dealer rates.

ok - found the place eventually - they seemed nice. He said he is gonna take the free wheeling hubs off and see what happens and maybe swap them for another set. He also said if the red/yellow controls move easily then it's doubtful that the 4 wheel drive has seized. He won't really know until he gets it up on the ramp which he will do on Monday. The people who had it before have unfortunately 'pimped it' by raising it up about a foot so the wheels are about a foot from the wheel arches (why would they do that?), but he will look into getting it back to it's original state, which I am happy about.

Thanks Medusa for the offer from your Dad, I would have been happy to bring it round but the garage have it now - thanks for the offer and I will bear it in mind for the future
