hello, ive just bought a 300tdi auto had it 2 weeks,which had a few problems, these have been sorted(ill write what was wrong and what its had at the bottom)
however its painfully slow, will not pull away to the point of it being dangerous and has very low power, if the roads long enough and the winds behind it may do 75mph top speed, i dont get ANY smoke at all not even when starting, im at a loss

Head Decoaked, Valves Ground,Clearences checked and double checked, New Headgasket and bolts, Intake Cleaned out and Gasket, New Coolant Sensor, Temp Sensor, P gasket, Waterpump Replaced, EGR Blanked, intercooler cleaned out, New Radiator,new fuel lift pump, drain off pipes replaced, alternator tensioner and drive belt, cam belt kit complete Used Correct Timing Tools (thats been checked 4 times cause Thats what i thought it was) Autobox fluid and filter changed Kickdown adjusted

Theres definitely a problem, my auto EDC is much quicker than the manual I used to have and that had the pump tweak.

Having said that I dont get any smoke either, Not sure wether mine will do more than 75mph because I havent bothered trying?

Do you get the turbo whistle when moving off? you can hear mine quite clearly only that seems from your post the one thing that hasnt been checked, perhaps fit a boost gauge?
 
no i realise its not going to be anything like the v8, but this isnt right, i can only describe it as foot down on the accelerator and it revs up but nothing happens for 2 to 3 seconds then it very slowly pulls away, ive never ever had any car as slow as this and i feel that a 20 grand motor( when it was new lol) would have been much faster otherwise the v8 would have been the popular one and not the tdi cause this is painfull
turbo i know nothing about i do hear a whistle not very loud but i thought they all did that

If it's not taking up the drive, and feels similar to a slipping clutch then you may have a gearbox problem, the basic checks at first are fluid condition and level on the dip stick.

Does this happen in other selector positions? ie. 1 instead of D, do you have any service history relating to the gearbox? it may just require replacment fluid and filter depending on the fluid condition.

But then there's your EDC to think about :(
 
it accelerates the same wether its in 1 or ,the autobox fluid has been changed as well as the filter and the o rings, and what came out was good to be honest, so im at a loss i dont feel asthough its a gearbox problem as it drives fine once its going, its just the getting it going lol

Then you have never driven a decent one,they are as quick or often quicker than the manual ones.
Most likely a low reading from the air flow meter or boost sensor.A quick session on Testbook should give the answer.99% of the time autoboxes get the blame for poor performance when its the engine not making enough power to drive it.
 
Have you had it connected up to any diagnostic equipment ? Sounds like you may need to.

I had an issue with a faulty Air flow meter.

You havent got massive tyres on it have you as that really kills pulling away ?

Are the turbo pipes shot and collapsing under accelearation ?
 
no i havent had it hooked up to anything yet thats kinda a last resort for me lol, i think ill be checking the turbo pipes and maybe connect up a boost guage see whats going on there, im going to get another air flow meter as i assumed it may be that, i dont know what the boost sensor is so ill have to look into that

The first one I ever drove was brand new, it was ****, **** poor, and I've not driven a better one since. :rolleyes:

You do know that you must check the gearbox oil level WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING don't you?

Because it sounds to me like you could be low on autobox oil?
 
Doesnt need to be a mian stealer most landy specialist have the gear now or could always ask on here if anyone in your area has the equipment
 
Have you replaced the catted exhaust downpipe for a non-cat one?

ESR2297 from memory (Defender version - fits perfect) costs about £15+vat from Paddocks.

Easy job but makes a deal of difference in terms of pick-up and mpg.
 
Mine is desperate until you hit 1700 RPM then the Turbot kicks in and with the rather large Alisport intercooler it goes like the clappers.

Sorry to ask the silly question but when mine was slower than the sinclair C5 the injectors were totally gummed up and the lift pump was toast, are yours ok?
