300TDI Thermostat

I'm tiring to remove the thermostat hosing so that I can replace the thermostat. The initial top bolt came out with little effort, however the bottom one is refusing to budge. The head of the M8 bolt is now almost completely rounded and due to its location I am unable to use mole grips etc to extract it!! Any ideas, not really that keen on banging it with a hammer as it's an aluminium casing.

Any suggestions most welcome!

drill/cut off the bolt head. remove the housing. then use mole grips etc to remove bolt.
