Hi I have a strange one for you

300tdi

when I start it with a full turn of ignition switch it will not start

if I turn the key back it fires

if I turn the key slowly it fires and then if I turn it all the way it stops turning over

I have changed the Ignition switch and the new one did the same

any ideas

I believe the TD5 switch (the module that fits on the end of the barrel) only gives a pulse, I've checked 2 new units and they give a single pulse when turned to start ??
I need to check what the output of a 300TDI unit gives but cant get to one now during lock up

With this in mind can anyone test the output from the ign s/w to the starter relay, is it on as long as the key is held in the start position ?

thank you I will try and find out what one I have but on a meter they read the same

I could only see the short on pulse of the TD5 switch using a bulb, it was too rapid to see on my test meter (you may see a flick if using an analogue meter instead of a digital)
Again if someone could test the output from a 300 TDI ign s/w it may help determine what you need

tdi and td5 are the same switch, they dont give a pulse otherwise you wouldnt be able to crank it over for varying times
