Hi all,

Picked up my first landy yesterday (300tdi) as a replacement to my pajero.
When i test drove it around town the temp was fine, coming home it was fine (even on the motorway) i upped the speed to around 80mph and then the traffic stopped and i noticed steam coming out of the bonnet and the temp guage was right up. Sat in traffic the temp went straight back down to normal, drove all the way home at around 70mph and didnt have a problem:confused:
Any ideas??
Thanks J

These seem to suffer from blocked pipes and rads as i have found out mate. At the min it could be loads of things so i would just keep an eye on your water level and see what happens

I have never tried flushing water system with chemicals as it could uncover a load of leaks but would it be worth while on this?

A lot of ppl say its best to replace the thermostat and back flush the system but have a read on refilling the system as if your not careful it will cause an air lock and give you loads of trouble. This is also my first landy and i also have had trouble as i bought mine last week from scotland and blew the head gasket on way home....lol. Have a good read at posts on the forum and you will pick up some good tips ;)

And i thought i was unlcuky buying it yesterday and over heating!! lol

Hope you get it sorted, im just a little disapointed that its done it as iv sold the pajero and was planning on using this to do a 300 mile round trip to wales next saturday to do some laning!!:(

My guess is that they are no diff from any other 4x4 as they all have problems but its just a case of keeping on top of them and you should be ok. When i got mine home thanks to the AA i stripped it and found that the last owner had bodged it together to sell and when i called him he didnt want to know. So being a nice guy i had done a deal with my old car but forgot to take the log book with me and its now on its way to the DVLA saying its scrapped so i hope he gets whats comming to him. :D:D

I agree, blocked radiator, and worth checking/replacing thermostat while you're at it .. a working stat just works, a non-working one will feck the engine pretty quickly .. ;)

Sounds like blocked rad.I replaced mine £100 ish from Paddocks. I also replaced all hoses and the header tank after it split .New tank is much better as it is clear plastic so you can see coolant level without having to take the cap off and look inside.

Had a good look over it today and im not so sure its a blocked rad....i think its a fooked rad, there are hardly any fins left on the rear!!
I was going to mm4x4 tomorrow to get some guards etc so i think ill pick up a rad and stat too!!
Cheers peeps;)

Just to end this thread incase anyone else experiences the same. Fitted the new rad and it all good, traveled down the motorway and temp stayed stable.
Thanks for you help peeps;)

Mine started overheating about a week ago and the heater blowing cold. Found I'd lost loads of coolant. Feared the worst but turned out to be the expansion tank split along the seam. Annoyingly I haven't managed to find one in spain so I'll probably have to order one from UK. Managed a temp repair with some stuff (dunno what it was called, bottle had Spanish writing on it - all Greek to me!) some sort of Radweldy type thing, filled the tank, chucked it in and it's ok for now.
