I have a 1990 LR90 with 300tdi conversation. The engine is a 21L suffix A from a Disco I believe however I've no idea what age that Disco was.

Is there a way to age the engine from that or any other identifying marks?

I'm trying to work out which coolant, blue or orange, should go in it. At the moment it has orange but it's quite dirty so that worries me that it's the wrong type and maybe causing issues.

Cheers!

Orange is wrong - get it out ASAP before it eats things. Blue, Glycol based anti freeze is right. Take with the stuff - it is toxic - specially to animals ( which includes you !! )

Ah **** that's not annoying! No idea how long its been in there causing damage either.

What it most likely to damage rad or other internals?

Don’t trust the colour to mean anything. Halfords sell OAT, or they did, in both colours. I think you need IAT coolant. That’s what my 200tdi uses.

I wonder if you could pish in the rad if ya ran out of water o_O:D
Don't know about modern engines but I do know of a minibus taking kids to a rugby match way back circa 1979 where the kids were lined up and encouraged to pee in the filler cap as an emergency measure. Apparently it worked to get them to the match...but it didn't half stink once warmed up!! :D

Me and my mate regularly ****ed in his escort Mexico. Much to the amusement of his girlfriend in the front passenger seat.

You want the cheapest blue crap money can buy.
As soon as it mentions fancy/long life/superior this or that its not for you.

Blue and change it every two years.

That’s what the stuff from Halfords says. I’m sure it was less than £16 for 10ltrs.

Then that sounds okay, was it concentrate or already mixed?
Tbh the 200 and 300 might be ok on oats, but have read/heard of it causing all sorts of coolant leaks on older stuff (mainly paper gaskets) and lets be honest 200 and 300 are now pretty old.

I wouldn’t put OAT in mine at all. It had it in when I bought it. I just have flushed through over 100ltrs of clean water to get the radiator flowing properly again. It was funded up with rusty water.

The stuff I bought from Halfords was concentrate, but it was on trade. It’s something like £10-12 for 5ltrs of concentrate.
