Hi all,

My discovery has an odd issue with the drivers door lock. It's not the usual 'door spring' issue either.

I put my key in the lock and turn, nothing happens. There is no resistance in the lock either so it feels lose whichever way you turn it. So I have to go in through the passengers door and lift up the handle manually then walk around and pull the handle to open the door.. Quite frustrating!

Unfortunately the car does not have the factory central locking fob fitted for whatever reason. It was like this when I bought it, apparently it had an issue of some kind but never told exactly what it was so the previous owner removed it. Is there a way of adding either adding the standard central locking fob or will I have to go third party with a Toad system or the likes..?

Thanks in advance.
Tom

Would it be a 200 series or an early 300 disco? if so central as locking was an option on some models all you need is the single button fob, then programme it to the security ecu yourself, assuming you have an ecu still.
With regards the key not unlocking, it could be that the cam or operating rod at the rear of the lock barrel is broken or has detached itself.. so have a look.
A 300 series without a fob means there has been some serious alteration to the security system, normally the vehicle wouldn't start without a fob.

It's a 300 series, 1995 M reg.

I'll take the door card off at the weekend and have a look inside, hopefully it's something simple as it's getting tedious getting in through the passenger side haha

Yeah that's what I'm thinking.. I have to individually open each door lock too by hand to open each door. I wouldn't mind but I'm just worried for security reasons if it means someone tries to nick it. May have to fit an isolation switch at some point if i cant sort it :/
