Hi Folks,

Looking for some advice. My Defender '98 County SW 300tdi is cutting out. It has been very intermittent with months inbetween but is getting worse and happened a few times in two days.

Theres no misfires, all running fine then just driving along and the engine cuts out. All other electrics are working fine. I pull over, turn off ignition, wait 3-6mins then it starts and the journey continues, all running fine.

If I try to start it before 3-6 mins it just rotates and doesnt even try to fire up.

I'm suspecting the Spider Immobiliser having read about but not sure if I have one. There is a black box at the front of the battery compartment with wires going in the top but not identifying marks on it.

Any ideas on possible causes? :confused: Please help as its getting dangerous! :eek:

Have you checked for alive feed at the fuel pump when it happens? Sounds like immobiliser, ignition relay or switch, fuel stop solenoid or bad connection at fuel solenoid on the injector pump.

Not checked live feed as dont have time before its running again and usually at side of road. I think the ignition relay/switch is OK as all the other electrics stay on including the radio. Just the engine cuts.

Reckon i'll try the immobiliser fix AMR4956 (assuming I have a spider on the 98!) Will have a twiddle with the solenoid and connections.

Any way to tell if I have the spider without removing black box?

It will be the spider i have the same problem

the only reson i havent fitted my bypass AMR4956 is because i havent got a rivvet gun to put it back on, i cant WAIT to fit its doing my nut in !

dont pay no more than £8 for the bypass kit if you cant find one message me ill sort you one for £8
