Hello,

I have a 1997 300tdi discovery auto with an intermittent cutting out issue.

It will always start up fine, then one time out of ten it will then cut out when either the brake is applied or when changing out of park. It will then start up fine and run and not do it again for the next several start ups. It runs fine in every other respect and can happen whether its been left for a few days or a few hours.

Looked around on other threads and not seen any symptoms like this, any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Auto.
Oops!
Dunno!
could be summat in the ECM?
Does sound totally like a dodgy connection but could it be on a PCB in the pooter?
I'd start with a look-see around all the wires that could be possibly be moved when moving the foot brake and the gear change lever. You don't specify if it is the handbrake or the foot brake which is applied. If it's the handbrake then that brings it closer to a part of the loom there being the problem. Does it still start in neutral and do all the gears change as they should?

EDC?

But ignoring the electronics I would be looking at potential air in the fuel issue, leaky leak off pipes, rusty pipes on the sender under boot floor, which you can get to via an access panel.

Sorry, mine being a manual i have no idea what they call the pooter on these, just know they have one!

I had a Volvo auto that had the same thing, it would randomly cut out.
My mate is a mobile electrician and found a sensor on the gear selector was the problem. He took it apart and found a dry solder joint, redone and it worked fine.
It stopped you staring it in gear, not sure if our D1's would have the same thing.
