hi,my disco 300tdi has started making a clicking noise when i lift the clutch in every gear & when i apply the throttle at times.It's more pronounced in 3rd,4th & 5th.Obviously it's drive-train but does anyone know how do i positively locate the problem?thanks in advance.

Hi,
The noise is a metal on metal type noise & it comes in only after the clutch is lifted and it's fully engaged and also when i come off the throttle and re-apply power.
It happens on all road types and at all speeds including from a stand-still.
If i use the clutch really gently, there's no noise.

It could be a number of things. The favorites are A-frame ball joint wear (but that is a heavier clunk) or spline wear on the gearbox shaft into the transfer box.
It may also be diff play or prop spline wear.
