Hi guys,

My 300tdi Auto previously had some overheating issues, which were solved by changing the water pump gasket and squeezing the pipes to bleed the system.

However I took it to muddy bottom last weekend and it started to overheat again. Been driving it over Xmas and new year with no issues and after I left the site there was also no issues. I checked he fluid levels and all were fine as well as no air lock (also recently changing auto box oil).

The weird thing was that I don't recall hearing any fan noise, despite the temp going rite up. When should the fans kick in? Is it advisable to fit an override switch for off roading purposes when the engine is working hard but air flow over the rad is minimal.

Any advice or suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestions, rad is clean inside and out. I just had a thought. A while back I took off the plastic fan housing (covers up the serpentine belt as well) because it broke. Would this be the cause of my problems?
