The problem is that my disco 300 TDI 1997-8 is overheating, it gets to normal running temperature then slowly gets hotter over about 10 miles. I have been told that it's most likely a head gasket, but have no bubbling in the expansion tank, or milky oil. The second possible fault is a clogged up RAD, but have found a slight water leak dripping off gearbox casing, where this is coming from I am not sure. If anybody can help, would like to hear from you and see if we can solve the problem, because I am going to do the work myself and need to keep the budget as low as possible. Many thanks, Carl.

make sure your rad isnt clogged up with mud or dusty, and that all the veins are intact as they are fairly fragile. could be worth giving your thermostat a tw'at with a Universal Adjustment Tool.

I've flushed it through clear water coming out, but still dosn't explain why water is leaking from somewhere onto the gearbox casing. Thanks for the tip but have already flushed through, tried bleeding etc. but still no joy. Being as I've had two different land rover ' experts ' tell me, one head gasket problem and one RAD problem, I'm in a bit of a situation, but don't want to spend out on one probable when it could be the other.

I meant the outside not the inside, if the fins are damaged or clogged it will not be able to convect the heat  I should of thought it's that, or your thermostat. give it a smack to make sure it's not stuck shut
