Hi not my usual room as i own a p38 but i have just put an engine in a 95 300tdi thats been sat nearly 2 years,

The prob i now have is that i cant get it to de-immobilise, the stop switch has already been but past put i'm not getting a live to the start or glow plug relay traced the fault to a little black box behind the heater controls if i power up the correct wires it starts.

Another thing is the receiver round the ignition barrel has been removed and is sitting behind the fuse box cover the thing car ran fine like this 2 years ago.

Any help to get it working any way would be great

cheers steve

The item behind the heater control is the spider, this is part of the immobiliser. I had a problem with mine and it turned out to be dry joints. I got a specialist to re-solder the spider and it's been fine. The problem is with these spiders is they are very secure. Landrover do a kit so you can remove it with no problems.

Ask your main dealer for a spider link lead AMR 4956 - its only about £6 and will do away with the smart spider.

hi i've fitted the link lead and it start's up on the button now thanks very much, Only prob is i have no glow plug light any ideas disco experts???????????

The smart spider was only fitted,(In the UK)to manual cars for the 96 and 97 model years.None of the auto's had it as the mechanical 95my cars had single button fobs, later EDC cars had immobilisation covered by the EDC ECU.
A 98my manual car wont have smart spider,it will be DDS immobilisation, identified by a plastic lump bolted over the stop solenoid on the pump by two shear headed bolts. If it goes wrong you can either drill out the bolts or "carefully" smack the lump off.Underneath you will see the stop solenoid to which you can connect the ignition live wire from the three way plug that fed the plastic lump.
