300 Tdi ES or 2001 Td5 ES

As in title,

1997 P reg 300Tdi ES in red, 120,000 miles part service history good condition - £2,750 (12 months MOT + 6 months tax)

or

2001 Y reg Td5 ES in green, 87,000 miles full service history, air bags replaced 12 months ago - £5,600.

Need a run around but also cumfortable cruiser, own collie so needed for dog. Are they both about 30mpg?

Been doing alot of research and its def one of the above, would be sensilbe I guess to get the cheaper one to run and insure.

But like the cumfort of the newer Td5.

forgot to say both are auto, I need auto.

if you can afford either buy the one you like best.. I love my discovery 1 3.9v8i es and am really not keen on the discovery 2.. except for the lights...

Having previously had a 300tdi defender and now a TD5 defender I would say that if you want the power and refinement then go for the TD5. If you want reliability and a vehicle cheap to maintain the go for the 300tdi.
