Does anyone know of a header tank cap with a level sensor from another vehicle that would fit, properly, onto a 300tdi?

Since water shortage is a common certain-death scenario to the 300 it would be handy to have this as a mod.On the P reg that Im (still!!!) rebuilding Ive got an oil pressure sensor&gauge and an ammeter (that I still domt understand how to fit) with a door pillar pod to mount them and I reckon that this would be a handy addition to the set up.

The link above is for a normally closed switch and works via the RR ECU although you can use a hold off relay also there's someone on the www that does a small electronic interface.

What you required is a normally open switch which closes and makes a buzzer sound/lamp light when the coolent level falls below the normal level.

Get a N/O float switch and fit it into the side of the bottle and make up your own sensor indicator but make sure the switch can stand a high water tempreture there's loads on of them on the www.

I will post a link on how to do it, when I can find it. :)

That all makes sense Discool, thanks...a link to a suitable n/o float switch would be good...

You might have to be careful what you fit, the LR one has a 2 way valve arrangement in the cap to allow for expansion and contraction of the coolant.
Don't know if other makes have this.

good point!thats why I asked if anyone knew if they were compatible, knowing the crossover of parts on rover and LDV,its just possible one with the same valves was used elsewhere

You now, that instruction on fitting and the circuit would be a good sticky or FAQ for us if they (the aussie forum) would give permission.....

tiz easy - tiz only a switch.....

run power to a warning light - from the warning light to the switch and from the switch to earth.
If yu want it to be more obvious, route it through a buzzer, rather than a warning light.

I like the idea if the aussie bit that cuts out the false reading bleeps/flahes from splashing around and only warns when the water is permanantly low
