Picked up 3 door 200tdi today Happy enough with it,I have owned my Freelander for 5 years now but needed something for green laining, but there’s some problems I’m going to have to fix,Speedo/miles not clocking up,leak from rear diff looks like the pinion, very small fuel leak and an unknown oil leak from the engine somewhere but the chassis is solid along with the floor looks like someone has looked after it at some point. Just though I would introduce myself.

That's a nice looking motor.

Love a 3 door Disco, same as mine :)

Oil leaks come from almost anywhere, head gaskets, rocker covers, timing case seals, sump gaskets, even lift pump gaskets.

Is the speedometer itself working or just not clocking up miles? Cables do break, drive gears wear out.

Neither :)think I’ll have a sharp learning curve with her,the fuel is leaking just above the chassis leg drivers side rear not had chance to find the engine oil one yet and the diff I’m not sure what’s on there buts it’s a mixture of muddy water and oil that’s leaking of the front.

fuel water trap is at back on chassis. under the bolt at the top, not the plastic drain at the bottom, coz they break.
drain diff if muddy water, clean and inspect prior to refitting. front nose seal is an easy fix.

Fuel pipes run along the RH chassis rail, well worth replacing them for new as a matter of course, as MHM says, check and drain the fuel sedimenter, please keep this and ignore the numpties that tell you to bypass it, they rarely give any trouble and are your fuel filters first line of defence against dirty fuel.

Do a full fluids and filters service and a cam belt kit will be a good idea too!!!

Diff seals do wear out and are relatively easily replaced, a good idea to remove the breather banjo and if you have a compressor then blow the axle breather through, do the same with the other breathers too if suspect.

There are a few build threads in the members vehicles forum at the moment so there is plenty of good info in there to give you an idea if you hit any snags :)

Yeah it’s definitely the fuel pipe on or close to the bend above the rail,I’ll get the service stuff and the parts I need once I have a ruff idea, going to have a good look over it with
/maroondestroyer thanks for the advice

Tbh I havent a clue, didnt see many about in 3 door variety that wasnt a commercial, they also did a 3 door 300

I think only the first 300s were 3 door - they didn't sell well and the 5 door family option was the one that set the sales.

My old 1998 3.9 V8 was a 3 door :)

They did sell quite well as the 3 door was a good utility vehicle and accrued lower tax rates in some export countries and served well as commercial options in domestic and export markets.

Last night I lifted the carpet up to find 6mm plywood luckily underneath that was a floor I’m assuming not original but it’s all solid and is solidish around the rear wheel arches the drivers side might need a little attention, the only bit I have found that definitely needs cutting out and doing so far is under the rear door hinge that’s completely gone. All the stuff ordered for a full service and a new thermostat as it doesn’t seem to go over quarter on the gauge.

IMHO, the 3 door is a better vehicle than the 5 - better ride and better structurally ( provided it ain't rotten:eek:  )

Unfortunately, the 3's do like to rot ( don't ask me how I know ) - but still the better vehicle IME.

There fine, looks like someone has spent a lot of time in the past doing it all,I’ll get the rest of the interior out and see if it’s hiding anything,it’s just a shame the interior is really really tatty,it looks like it’s been a work truck as the previous owner lived on a farm according to the log book.
