3 amigos, I know, please read!!

i am looking for someone to get rid of the 3 amigose on my dash, any recomendations welcome in south yorkshire area.:) land rover want £100 to put it on diagnostic for half hour, somebody must be local and want the money. it gets on my t***:mad: paying dealers prices, or am i wrong:doh:
 
you can drive it ...to find out the fault exactly you must plug in a tester cos there could be many reasons...see attachment

hello all. I've got the full set - aws, tc, hill desent AND hand brake light!!!
Any ideas for this newbie?

Yes,before you go too far jack it up and check the wheel bearings,its the first thing you should do if the ABS lamp comes on and you dont have diagnostic kit.
I have a DII in my yard at this moment with the RH front wheel hanging off - owner was very casual about the warning lamps,was more interested in why it doesnt go very well...(Totally separate engine fault)
 
if there's a sensor fault i might affect driveability aswell due to altered VSS(vehicle speed signal) which is part of the management. here's my theory from other forum:


:idea: after the discussion on other thread about ABS sensors i decided to share something witl all of yous guys:
maybe you'll all be amazed but happened to me then i found(at least i think i did) the explanation too: an ABS sensor or the SLABS ECU missbehaviour could affect the driveability aswell... i mean if you have the 3 amigos on due to a sensor(or sensor wiring) fault you might observe that the car doesnt behave 100% as you would have expected(imo it could affect worst the autos but that i cant confirm that)

the explanation lays in the VSS and the ECM's addaptive strategy:

The VSS is an integral part of the ECM's overall adaptive strategy. The ECM receives the signal direct from the
SLABS ECU. The SLABS ECU is not connected to the controller area network (CAN) so therefore is hard wired.
Vehicles fitted with automatic transmission have two vehicle speed input signals to the ECM. One signal is from the
SLABS ECU and the other is from the automatic transmission ECU. The ECU compares these speed signals.

so a "vitiated" signal from the ABS ECU due to sensor unbalance/fault IMO MIGHT affect the engine's behaviour too... not very noticeable though but knowing that if you'll concentrate you could have a surprise to observe that .. it's also stated in RAVE under SLABS ECU description:

In addition to controlling the brake related functions, the SLABS ECU controlls:

i can tell that i observed on my own car that when the 3 amigos were on and the fault code was related to a sensor it seemed to me that it didnt drive so smooth as it used to
 
have you checked the wave pattern whilst on the move? just had same prob with a mates td5 he ended up with new bearing and sensor..also the sensor was breaking down only at speed,had 3 different sensors till we sorted it..another no brainer...check the tyre pressures..sounds dumb i know but if one tyre is low then the ecu detects the difference in wheel speed and brings on the dreaded lights..also what prog you using to code read, as many cheaper after market readers will give an incorrect code...

Just had the three amigos show up this lunch time! Rear drivers side tyre was looking a bit on the soft side, topped it up to match the rest, lights gone, took it for a thrash up and down the road, still no lights. So fingers crossed it was just that! many thanks. BB

Tyre pressures have nothing to do with the 3 amigos, eventually the TC would kick in, it was a coincidence, the'll be back soon or if it was just some glitch it's not the pressure which caused/fixed it
 
All the usual, 3 amiogos came on. Read and clear codes, new abs sensor fitted o/s rear, came on again, replacement sensor fitted as resistance was out of range on senssor. Came on again so new hub and sensor fitted, ok for a couple of weeks, came on again read and clear codes, still o/s rear sensor electrical circuit intermitant reading or no signal. :)mad:sees me bum now:confused:) Removed glove box and abs ecu, disconnected rear and front sensors, checked all sensor resistances and wiring from ecu plug to sensors for shorts, all ok. Checked wave form from sensors and all ok. Has any one else had this kind of fault? could it possibly be abs ecu and if so does a replacement need coding to vehicle? Obviously the warning lights are coming on and pinging at me but i usually only get the abs and traction control light coming on and not the hdc light. Sometimes the traction control will kick in as i pull awat from my drive in the morning but there is no wheel slip at all and the abs sometimes kicks in when you brake but again no wheel skid is felt (tarmac road, dry and nearly new bfg all terains) Any and all help appreciated as im running out of ideas. Have you bled the brakes using the recommended sequence, there have been cases where a bit of air in the system (ABS block) can throw up codes, there is a sequence you are meant to follow because it is possible to bleed air out one line/section, then bleed the next part and air in the system can end up in the shuttle valves of the line you already bled.
