2nd gear crunch

Hi guys wondering if anyone has replaced the syncro on 1-2 on an r380. I might try an oil change first, as just bought disco, gear box works sweet except 1st to 2nd shift crunches, shame on an otherwise great gearbox. I have never done any internal gearbox work before but you have to start somewhere. Its a shame to swap out the box for another unit as otherwise it works great, with (I beleive) no wear on output shaft! I appreciate your feedback, cheers Jim
 
all mine have crunched a bit mate , 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd
normaly fine if changing a but slower , i find that if you try to rush gear change like a normal car thats when it crunches

+1 on this, these gearboxes don't like being rushed at all. Change the oil so you know it's fresh, and change gear at a slower pace .... eventually your driving will adapt to the Landy's slower pace....
 
baulk ring outer dog teeth wear from triangle shape to thin rectangle as it does geasr change gets harder ,you would need some tooling to replace ,very regular oil changes slows process ,you can tell after yove done enough which ones havent had many oil changes
 
AS an aside , UncleF , your avatar pic puts me in mind of a Diamond T or an old Mack heavy recovery lorry ....I think Im going to have to steal that style for my long awaited recovery D1 ....when I get around to building the bugger !
