2mm chequer plate adequate?

Have just bought a chequer plate panel for the bonnet of my '96 110 Defender as I need access to a roof box on my roof rack and want to stand on the bonnet.

I thought I had bought 3mm plate but it turns out I got muddled up re: overall thickness (3.2mm) and plate thickness which is approx 2mm so am after some advice re: whether 2mm will do the job - having had a look under the bonnet there appears to be a fair bit of structure present.

What I would really like to know is if there somebody out there who has 2mm plate on their bonnet and who stands on it regularly with no damage/ dishing to the bonnet?

Don't know the answer but it will depend on your weight. I went for 3mm and it takes my weight @ 14 stone.

2mm is good enough on the bonnet but if you wanna stand on the wings yer better with 3mm.

Unfortunately I have 2mm on my wings and the wings are bowing a bit now.

But surely If I stand on one leg on my chequerplate will only be taking half my weight?

That depends, how many chips are in the hand thats above that leg

And whats the other leg resting on

is it more chips

?

Portions or individual chips?

My other leg will be suspended in mid air whilst holding up some more chips.
