2010 Freelander here, been running in perfect shape since i picked it up new in 2010. Suddenly this evening when i went to get some night time shopping the car opened, i put the key in and nothing. No lights on at all except the radio that says power save. The key is now stuck in the ignition and will not release, the headlights went on (dim) i turned them off and they dont want to come back on. Since nothing else wants to power up.

I live quite far from town and its nothing but snow so the only other car here being a smart car will not jump the freelander and will not make it to civilization.
After a quick google and forum search all i see on power save is the radio and while the engine is off so it makes me look towards the battery. My only hope now is the battery charger i have to charge from the house which is a very long and slow process. Any suggestions while i go out in the weather and try and sort something out, does this sound like battery issue or something far worse?

Thanks, dont have much time to make a better descriptive post but appreciate the help

Sounds like new battery time, the cold always shows up weak batteries, either that or you do too many short runs, have a battery drain problem or an alternator fault.

I pretty much drive this car once a week 15 mins to get groceries then 15 mins back home ;( That is short?

Managed to get the battery charger on it after blowing a fuse on it and finding the very last spare, showing yellow at 12.3-12.6 which it should be above 12.6 when it hits green by morning.

I might of over reacted on the low battery issue as the car done some pretty strange things, like the headlights went on automatic for no reason a few times, and then the hazard lights managed to do the same when i got the battery charger on it.

A battery on charge needs to read at least 13.5 volts, higher if a quicker charge is required. A lead acid battery, at rest, fully charged should be between 12.5 and 12.8 volts.

Had this battery charger for a while now, its quite big with three steps which are under 12.3 = red light (dead battery most likely) then 12.3-12.6 = orange light which pretty much means the battery can be recharged in my experience, then 12.6+ = green light for when the battery charger can be taken off. It had two options 3.5A and 7A which the 3.5 is for motorbikes/small cars and 7A for large. Been charging since just after i made this post. Anyone dare to take a guess at how long it should take to charge? I cant remember exactly but i think our LR4 previously took at least 12 hours to go from the orange to green light.

Lets say tomorrow lunchtime would be 18 hours, if its not charged by then its not going to charge? I have much experience in charging car batteries its just every other time the car has had full power and tried to start over while this time nothing would turn on so i am kind of unsure. The radio does turn on now so i take that as a good sign? And the light should be able to turn on inside the car long before the battery reaches charge?
