Freelander 2 (LR2) 2010 Freelander 2 front wipers intermittent or not working

Hello from a new member.

I have a 2010 FL2 2.2 TD4 and for the last year or so I have been having problems with the front wipers stopping mid journey. They sometimes don't start at all or sometimes stop working (either mid screen or in park position) after having been on for some minutes. Sometimes if I put it on to fast this gets them going again but increasingly this doesn't work and it might be some minutes before they start again which can be a bit disconcerting!

2 garages have looked at them and not found a fault. Last week an independent LR specialist replaced the stalk but this hasn't been the solution. I still have the same problem. They say that the only thing it could be now is the motor. It has cost £300 so far and I am a bit concerned that they are not sure what the problem is.

Any views on this issue?

The wiper motor is nowhere near £300, £100 being more accurate. Its an easy 30 minute job to replace it.
However before condemning the wiper motor, you need to check the supply from from the wiper relay, which is part of the JCB iirc.

check the motor earth too no earth no go

Thanks guys. I will quiz the mechanics about the earth and the relay when I take it in next week.

There is a recent thread that sounds almost identical to this.

That turned out to be the wiper switch I believe. IIRC the op removed the switch, cleaned up the contacts, reinstalled it and it resolved the problem.

Just an update....the garage had the car for a few days and did find the problem. It was a faulty relay! They did refund me for the stalk and didn't charge for the time finding the problem so it is all good now.

Hi -Front wipers on my 2012 FRL2 not parking correctly-finish third way front screen otherwise working fine-can you advise what relay was replaced to fix your problem
