Hi Guys,

So on a drive to work the other day the oil pressure switch started to spew all the oil out the side of it where the electric connector attaches. I only noticed after getting to work.

I got some oil in it at the office, then off to the local euro car part, new sensor, new oil all good. by the time i got close to home the oil cooler hose had sprung a leak, it spewed all the oil out of the engine, tbh, i dont know if it all went but it cant have been far off.

The temp reading for water never went too hot.

The engine stopped, i got out, dumped another 5ltrs of oil in as soon as i reaslised what had happened. waited 5 mins, then cranked it, it started and drove the remaining distance, i have topped up and replaced hoses etc.

Now, how do i figure out what damage has occoured? its lumpier on start up and running. Any advice would be welcome.

The fact its running differently tells you all you need to know, out with the spanners.

What just strip it down or ???

Do you mean its not scrap but there is a problem. So could be worse but probably fixable?

I mean pop the head off for a look see, they are a very very tough engine.

I have had a 200 get so hot it locked up/heat seized when off roading it, I still own and drive it.

With sender fail then hose I would suspect oil pump pressure relief faulty.
Bottom of cylinders are lubricated by jets if no oil no lubricatiion to bores

pistons, bores, crank bearings, cam, rocker arm faces and bushes

thanks, i'll do the pressure testing and then crack on with stipping it down, i'm 90% sure that i'll have to do some work/investiagting. i've got a spare head all set up and ready to go and a new/recon crank shaft so i guess that'll help.

in terms of cylinder damage what am i looking for??? is it just gouging in the side? how bad is too bad? Has anyone had a block re machined and how much did that cost roughly?

what kit would you use for the cylinder compression? i only seem to be able to find petrol ones
a diesel one they use the glow plug holes but i wouldnt bother buying one if you can get free use of one ,your looking for signs of pistons picking up on cylinder walls ,scratching etc, it roughly costs about 200 nowadays and if needed you buy pistons and get block bored to the new pistons leaving 2 thou to hone to finished size, piston sets sizes vary hence boring block to fit pistons,

Right ive pulled the head off and i reckon cylinder 4 is the problem ill attach some photos. How bad do you think this is??

Ive drained the oil and there isnt any swarf in it but ill do the sump and ladder frame next to see whats what!

id pull pistons give it a quick glaze bust measure and inspect if ok then a good hone and new rings depending on pistons

Right well the sump had coppery glitter in it. And the oil pumps mesh had copper glitter and crud on it...
