Right guys id bought a 200tdi with snapped cambelt...stripped it down replaced what was broken also replaced cylinder head as some mong had destroyed it..by tapping the rocker bar bolt holes and few other niggles..

Now shes back together and fired up all ok....

...apart from she sounds lumpy on start up and smokes more than a steam train...once shes warmed up though shes fine

Any ideas?

Ye we used the timing tool kit..locked under flywheel locked off the diesle pump..after aprox 5 mins though shes fine runs ok pulls ok surly if timing this wouldnt happen?

for me it semms to be the pump timing is out looks like un burnt fuel to me oh and check the glowplugs aswell i have the same 200 tdi and she starts on quarter turn its just rotten to death lol. if you have bought it with the belt snapped you cant be sure what someone has fettled before you, also did you check the valves and seats on the replacment head.

It was a bare head everythisng was swaped over...if its pump timing can I tweek it with the 3 bolts on front? Any specific way I should try first? Clockwise anticlockwise etc.

check the turbo. ive had one or two 200tdis that smoke like a bastid and miss on startup. when the oil warms up it stops smoking(not sure wh)y, you dont know it didnt do this before the cambelt snapped....

it may have been the pump timing, i tweeked it abit yesterday and she wasnt lumpy on startup this morn, couldnt see smoke though as it was dark..

we did but everything lined up? obv not but hey ho sorted now, cheers for the help...time to try and solve the heater matrix and hope i can get away withought dash out :(
