Hi
I have a 110 xs utility 2008 which I have owned from new.. cracking car and i have replaced everything on it mechanically over the time I’ve owned it using garages as I’m not very mechanically minded..! It’s had a full vinyl wrap for most of its life and the time has come to remove it as bits are starting to rust on the body.. I.e capping that sits between the body and the tub and the post between the front and rear doors. My question is I don’t have much experience in this and I wondered if this is an easy job to do as a diy?
I’m fairly capable and can undo nuts and bolts but don’t want to start something I can’t finish!!
Any advice from someone who has taken bodywork off a 110xs would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Nik

Interesting, a long term vinal wrap. What will be the effect after many years?
Body capping's are riveted on but can be replaced, drilling out and re riveting on new ones. Roof off though.
B posts can also be fitted in similar way, however getting them right is critical for fit operation of the doors.

The body work is perfect on 90% of the car it’s just the rear capping and the B posts that have suffered.. if it wasn’t for this it would be perfectly preserved!

Yes it is the steel parts that will have suffered. I guess the wrap may have cracks that have let water in or it has come from the inside.
Depending on what capping's/pillars are like when wrap is removed. [were they covered?] then if just surface rust it can be removed/treated ect. Even if there are small holes they can be patch welded.
What is chassis/bulk like?
As you have likely gathered neither pillar or capping replacement is a "nut and bolt" job.
Cleaning up surface rust, treating and painting is something one can do.
Lots of videos on the you tube of how to do, some for Defenders some non specific.

To replace the capping you need to remove the side panels and you can remove the side panels without removing the roof. I have done this on both 110 and 90.

It might not strictly be a nut ad bolt job to replace the capping but it is in essence and although large is not a difficult job. It is all nuts and bolts to remove the side panel, followed by drilling out rivets to remove the capping. You can buy galv capping's form yrm, I have just bought a set for my station wagon, and then to refit the capping it rivets back into place using the original holes. there is nothing complex about it really, it is not like there are tight tolerances and process to follow like with some of the mechanical works.

Should have been clearer with "roof off". When I did mine I left the sides on the roof and lifted at the rear pivoting the lot on the screen hinges. Fence posts held up the rear.
@dag019's pics should help OP to decide if capable of capping renewal.

The sides off on the red 110 were to replace the capping and while there I took the opportunity to paint it, hence everything being stripped off. The green 90 was to swap from van sided to window sides so all I was doing was removing and refitting the side panels which took about an hour per side. So is not too difficult to remove the side to get access to the capping. but on the 110 the capping was also glues on with sealant so once all the rivets were drilled out I had to knock a chisel along the underside to break the seal. Depending on what timescale the op is working on in the next couple of months I am going to remove the rear sides on the station wagon to replace the capping's so can take lots of pics to document the process.
