My TD5 developed a misfire, I did some research and learnt about the oil in the red ECU plug issue.
I cleaned that and replaced the injector wiring loom. This seemed to work great and the car was more or less normal for about 300km.
Then it stared misfiring again and continues to do so.When idling everything is fine but during acceleration and deceleration the misfire is there.
I am not sure what to do, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I bet that your wastegate actuator rod I ceased. There is a little rod that connects to the manifold near the turbo, and enters a circular metal contraption (the wastegate actuator), if you spray a load of wd on the rod then grip it with some water pump pliers or similar and lossen it, then spray some heatproof grease on the pivots etc when you come onto boost during high revs climbing a hill etc you wont get the missfire

I took the rod off the lower arm and made sure that it could move freely when not connected to the rod. I have not however oiled the other end. I thought that there was a vacuum and spring inside the can looking part.
I will lubricate this thoroughly and see if I get any positive results. Thanks.

Sorry mate I was talking about the manifold end, I hadn't realised you'd already taken it apart! If you get some brake cleaner aerosol and spray inside red plug, as even though you've changed loom, some oil will still track back that's in existing part of loom, I had t spray mine and leave to dry about 10 x over the course of a year before I stopped getting oil accumulating in re d plug

The thing is that I am not seeing anymore oil and the "misfire" has gotten worse. I must be missing something..

Do you have, or know anyone with any form of diagnostics? If your having misfire problem it may throw up an error code that you can then trace back to and isolate the issue. If your thinking of hanging on to the td5 id thoroughly consider buying one, they save so much time and hassle when you go around guessing at what the problem is!

I don't have one, but I will make sure to invest in one. Do you have any recommendations on which one to buy. Preferably one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
I dropped by a workshop yesterday and they checked it with the diagnostic tool. It was however the first time the guy had seen a defender, and all the codes where in Swedish. Roughly translated they said, long loading puls injector 2 and 3, intermittent.
Turbo overpressure intermittent.

So it turns out that the cause of my misfire is the MAF sensor. I disconnected it and the engine ran flawlessly.

While I was looking around I found a loose hose that I suspect has something to do with the problem.

The loose end that I am holding connects to the thing under my watch, (don't have a clue what it Is). Does anyone know where the loose end should go? A picture would be much appreciated.

Have you deleted the EGR valve? Looks like the vacuum hose from something. I'm just guessing EGR valve as can't see a reason to remove any others.

Check on the vacuum manifold (under your watch) for 2 missing hoses. The holes on the manifold should be blanked off.

Like this. The EGR vacuum hoses connect to the blue ports 1 of which is arrowed

You can just see 1 of the disconnected hoses under the right hand red circle. If your EGR valve has been removed the vacuum manifold must be blanked off properly or it may affect braking performance

Looking at mine your hose doesn't look like 1 of the ones that connects to the underneath of that manifold. Have you traced it back to anything? Could be a breather

I traced it back to the thing under my watch. I will have a closer look as soon as I can. I don't think that it's a breather hose as its coming out of the thing under my watch.
I don't know if the erg has been blanked. Bought the car in May. Will look to see if it looks like you pictures .
Thanks
