Afternoon all. I ask this question before I start to take out starter from my wife's 2003 1.8 petrol freelander. All was fine with it and then total failure. Does this sound usual or have we got some more freelander gremlins? All answers appreciated.
Thanks

Did you try linking the starter solonoid wire to the battery to test it before removing it?
It could be the starter or several other causes too.

Morning all. Tried a direct feed to the small terminal on the solenoid. Nothing at all. Am assuming now it is solenoid defect. Have started to remove starter and solenoid but can't seem to find starter bolts. Have undone the two long bolts (5-6 inch).Where do I find the main bolts to remove the actual starter. Please help. Only have today to do it.
Thanks

Ok.Only two bolts holding motor in.Undid those, slipped out the motor, put new motor in,bolted it up,replaced big red wire, replaced little wire on solenoid, refitted air box, secured battery, put key in ignition, gave it a turn and.............bingo.Easiest job in the world if you have the right info.
Thanks all and goodnight.
MERRY CHRISTMAS

Hi, just found your post, having similar problems as you had, was the bottom bolt just a stud or was there a nut on it and did you get it from underneath.
