Hello everyone. I need a little advice. My 2002 td4 needs to go on a trailer to the garage to have diagnostic tests. At the moment it's stuck in my garden entrance. It needs towing backwards to get out then I need to go down a very steep hill so it can be collected by a transporter. Will the brakes and steering still work OK. Car won't start but still has power. Do I just turn the key so that the dash is on. Thanks everyone.

The brakes will need a much harder push to get them to work, and the steering will be stiff. Yes, just turn the key to position II so the dash is on and the steering lock is off.

Let us know how you get on.

If you survive that is!

I was wondering if you ought to have a passenger so he can get a grip on the hand brake while you've got both hands turning the steering wheel, but I suppose that might make it heavier and more difficult to stop.

Is it a manual? Could you put it in gear and use engine braking? Will it damage the engine if its not running for a run down the hill like that? Don't know how the vacum is generated for the brakes, might that create some?

It's an automatic. I'm going to try and do it now. Hopefully I'll still be around to tell you how it went. Lol. Thanks for your help

Is your car cranking over ? but will just not fire up, have you tried easy start on the car, being an Auto be careful towing it to far, same goes for letting it roll down an hill it as to be in N remember, maybe do it in segments at a time.

I made it down. The brakes and steering were very heavy but they did the job. Not towing it anywhere. It's going on a wagon bit the wagon couldn't come to my house as the road is too small. All done now. Thankfully. Thanks for the help everyone. Very much appreciated
